   The Pair

the pair

like two shoes
laced
sometimes I wonder what is up there in the
clouds
I wonder if there is a God who listens to me

today I sat at a table
with blueberry tea
it was as if I was trying to tell my own
fortune
looking left, looking right

sometimes I think there is no fortune at all
and then I wonder what makes me
me
I don't study it closely or anything
I might not even keep it close to my heart

I saw an older lady in a black coat
white tennis shoes
lipstick and she looked sad but beautiful
tea leaf face

It was a cold day out
I read
I wrote
I almost thought
